Introduction

Our world has evolved and is no longer governed by the markers and dictates of the 19th and 20th centuries. Today, success wears a different cloak.

To be successful in the 21st century is to be skilful and abreast of current information. The world has become so small and accessible from any little corner. Limitless opportunities abound, but this is limited to the CREATIVE and SKILFUL.

Sadly, the educational system, the BEDROCK of civilization, keeps recycling 19th and 20th century’s module of compliance and conformity (a disadvantaged system in the 21st century).

At Thames Valley College, our students are fully armed with our 7 SUCCESS LIFE SKILLS of:

  1. Critical Thinking and Problem Solving
  2. Initiative and Entrepreneurship
  3. Agility and Adaptability
  4. Creativity
  5. Effective Oral and Written Communication
  6. ICT Savviness
  7. Social Intelligence

These lifelong skills prepare us to tap into the moment and stay relevant in a fast-changing world.

“The essence of the independent mind lies not in what it thinks but how it thinks.” – Christopher Hitchens

THINKING is a priceless gift. It is the dividing line between man and other creatures of the world. It is one of the greatest freedom bequeathed us by the Creator. This freedom in the hands of a critical thinker has potency to challenge norms, engender peak performances, create new inventions, write and rewrite history and liberate the world.

At Thames Valley College, we believe that teaching Critical Thinking and Problem-Solving skills of meticulous analysis, evaluation and reflection are critical to producing global leaders.

Every child deserves the best education… Every child, with the right education, can become a critical thinker and problem solver.

“It’s not about ideas. It’s about making ideas happen. – Scott Belsky.

Entrepreneurship is to take initiative. In other words, an entrepreneur is one who is willing and able to initiate a plan from an idea and pursue it to completion.

Entrepreneurs are proactive; look for solutions where others see problems.

At Thames Valley College, we give our students the chance to take initiative for their goals. We teach them to be proactive and to make things happen. @ Thames Valley College, our goal is to raise leaders and entrepreneurs who would break new grounds through their initiative.

“Adaptability is the secret of survival.” – Jessica Hagedorn.

The one thing we can always count on in life is change. Change is constant. People change, situations change, circumstances change, plans change, directives change, etc.

Agility and adaptability skills are critical to dealing with the complex vicissitudes of life.

Agile and adaptable people always rise to the occasion, embrace change as opportunities and challenges rather than as problems. They are ever ready to navigate into the new world and embrace the next turn.

This is why Agility and Adaptability is an important life skill at Thames Valley College.

“The desire to create is one of the deepest yearnings of the human soul.” – Dieter F. Uchtdorf.

Throughout history, man has been mystified by creativity. What is creativity? Where did it come from? Who is creative? We associate creativity in our minds only with artists, writers, musicians and actors.

Today, however, the veiled mystery has been unveiled. Creativity is commonplace; it is everywhere and can be applied to everything. Simply put, creativity is making the mundane look exciting. Creativity is an eye for beauty in whatever we’re engaged in and yes, we are all creative.

Creativity is an important life skill at Thames Valley College.

“Communication works for those who work at it.” – John Powel

To be successful in any endeavour or industry, you need to be able to communicate effectively both orally and in writing. Effective communication is beyond the ability to express one’s thoughts clearly. It is the power to engender the intended feeling, understanding, response and reaction from your audience.

At Thames Valley College, we recognise this important life skill and are committed to raising effective oral and written communicators.

“Once a new technology rolls over you, if you’re not part of the stream roller, you’re part of the road.” – Stewart Brand.

Technology has had a huge impact on modern man. Today, it plays an integral role in just about everything we do. The world has gone digital. Everything, from phones, television, cars, banking, education, news and trade are all powered by technology today.

As such, ICT SAVVINESS is an important life skill in order to stay relevant, useful and current. This is why we are poised to raising ICT Savvy students at Thames Valley College.

“When we focus on others, our world expands.” – Daniel Goleman.

Social Intelligence is people skill or simply, ‘People intelligence.’ It is an offshoot of emotional intelligence.

Socially intelligent people carry that inner self (self-awareness) everywhere they go. They have a high self-esteem and exude confidence, positivity, motivation, team spirit, emotional awareness and empathy. These endear the friendship and loyalty of everyone around them.

At Thames Valley College, we are committed to raising socially intelligent leaders.
